How to Make a Maxi Skirt (A Free PDF Download)

One of our favorite current trends is the maxi skirt. I’ve never been much of a skirt person but these skirts are so versatile and comfortable that I find that I want to them all day every day! We figured that if we love them so much you probably would too. So we created a maxi skirt “formula” so you can make a maxi skirt to fit anyone, from child to adult.

Our maxi skirt formula makes these skirts so simple and easy to make that you could have a whole closet of them in no time!

A few things to remember when making your skirt:
1. This pattern will only work if you’re using a knit material.

2. Pay close attention to the grain, following the direction designated on the formula. Most knit will casino internet not stretch along the grain and stretch is very important in making a maxi skirt.

3. For this project you should be able to use a straight stitch, but sewing on knit can sometimes be tricky. If you find you’re having problems with the straight stitch you might have better results using a Flexi stitch. Theses stitches can be found on most machines (our personal favorite is #4).

(If you sew a lot of knit you may want to look into getting an overcasting foot for your sewing machine.)

Good luck with your maxi skirt – and send us pictures, because we’d love to see all the great patterns, prints, and styles you can create with this simple formula!
